The (Social Media) World of Fashion: What We Can Learn from Kendall Jenner

Instagram is changing the entire landscape of the fashion world. Kendal Jenner is proof of that. Her Instgram account  brags a total of 67.4million followers. According to Vogue, Jenner has been known for gaining fame through selfies. So much so that when she deleted her Instagram account for a few days, Vogue did an entire article on it.

Cosmopolitan even did an article on her social media fame called Here Are Kendall Jenner’s Secrets for Getting More Likes on Instagram. In the article Kendall gives tips such as, “You don't want to do too many posts. You want to leave them wanting to come back,” and “It has to be organic.” There is nothing extraordinary about Jenner's photos. Most of them are selfies taken on an iPhone. It is not the content that is extraordinary; it is her following that is. That is to say, what makes Jenner so popular is her social media presence. This is the ultimate self-promotion of our generation. It is this self-promotion that made her the face of Estee Lauder. The company even advertised their product on Instagram by advertising Jenner's Instagram account. Since Jenner has joined the campaign, Estee Lauder's Instagram has posted more photos of her than any other model, always tagging her Instagram profile.

It is this social media fame that even landed her the cover on the September issue of Vogue.

Today in order to even exist in the fashion world, one must recognize the importance of social media, especially Instagram, and the potential it has for fomenting fame. If you want to be relevant in this world, you need to get your face out there, like a Kendall Jenner selfie.

McQueen became The King.

There he was. Lied in his bed full of blood. Police retired the body of Alexander McQueen four hours later his death. Great Britain cried.

One of the most revolutionary designers of the history was Alexander McQueen. He became the King of the British design due to his intense way of doing clothes. He started to study fashion on Saint Martin´s School of Art but his career had already begun when he was a very little child; at home he designed and sewed dresses for his sisters. There was no doubt that he would success when he started to work as the artistic director of Givenchy. Sex, unrequited loves, fake friends and a destructive fame where some of the problems that the artist McQueen suffered.

His collections where pure energy. His knowledge in pattern construction mixed with a lifestyle full of ups and downs were the perfect cocktail for a fashion star. One fashion show which really fascinates me is the one with that huge crystal box with mirrors inside. The public could see the first impression of the models with their extravagant clothes and crazy hairstyles. It was not only a runaway; it was a visual show. Quite shocking to see that beautiful woman in a white big dress being painted by a robot in one of his first fashion shows.

Unique, rebel, sophisticated, modern, elegant… some people accused McQueen for being fetishist or even misogyny but he redesigned the female figure with an unforgettable style which will stay for ages.

MCQUEEN AND I, an incredible documentary about the designer´s life.

Janie Bryant: Costume Designer

If you ever stumble across Janie Bryant on Instagram, you will immediately see one of two things: a cute poodle or a beautiful dress or suite that looks like it is from another time period. Bryant is an Emmy Award winning American film and television costume designer; her most notable works being from HBO’s Deadwood (2004-2006) and AMC’s Mad Men (2007-2015).

Did I mention she also owns three adorable white standard poodles.

Bryant’s most recent projects include Amazon’s The Last Tycoon and the upcoming film based off of Stephen King’s novel, It (2017).  Like these two titles, Bryant is well known for her costume design in both the horror and time period genres. Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, Prada and other designers have sited her work as being influential.

FASHION BLOGGERS WORLD

There are so many fashion bloggers, who try to get the audience attention these days. All of them try to put on a different twist and a fresh vibe with their approach, but only a few manage to stand out and catch the attention of fashion world, and public. If I was to say who did a great job I would definitely point out 28 year old street style inspired Aimee Song , and 31 year old Nicole Warne  who is undoubtly one of the biggest vintage lovers.  These two girls constantly captivate the audience with their extraordinary ideas, “careless style”, and unique taste. They know what it means to follow the trends, but for some reason they always seem to be one step further.

Its funny for me how very often style bloggers get so much hate for doing what they love and inspiring people to own it as they do. They get discredit, and described as a pretty, brainless girls, that do nothing except posing in front of the camera and taking millions of snaps from the first rows at the fashion shows. But if we take a closer look these are the people that run worldwide campaigns, work with best designers, appear in the covers of fashion magazines and are being invited to the biggest TV shows.

Just for men.

When we hear the word “fashion”, instinctively a woman come to our minds. However, we have notices that in the las decade men have developed a strong interest for fashion. That is why I would like to focused this post on men, men who love fashion as I did and wanted to find more inspiration for their daily looks. Here we have three male fashion sources that personally have had a great significant which had inspired me for a long time. These magazines for men are: Vogue, GQ and Risbel Magazine.

“L´Uomo Vogue” was created as a supplement for the Italian Vogue edition in 1967. Then, in 1985 Vogue France published first the Vogue Hommes International for men. I always defend the idea of fashion has a physical time line with develops itself during years and year, overcoming every situation and representing the society with its achievements and failures. All this characteristics are presented in Vogue which has been publishing for 124 years. This magazine offer a large advertisements of luxurious brands a apart from great articles and interviews. Vogue sets up what tendencies are finally going to become fashionable. This edition for men include some especial haute couture garments and complements which would be difficult to find in other place.

When a magazine dedicates its efforts on male fashion every month becomes a challenge. That is what GQ does. This magazine was launched onto the market in 1957 in the US. The initials of GQ come from "Gentlemen's Quarterly" and as the name says it was published every three months. A part from talking about fashion it contains really cool reports. It is considered one of the most sophisticated fashion magazines of the century.

Last but not least; Risbel Magazine. Tends with a youth view and a cosmopolitan style are shown in this online magazine. Perfect for a fast peek in any moment of the day to be up to date with the latest news related to fashion but always with a personal task in every single post.

Media offers us a great vision of men fashion which nowadays continued being a minority.
