Cary Grant, Me, and Fashion

In my first blog entry I talked about my first week at the university; about how I came to Spain to experience a new culture and new things. Part of this process for me, now, includes starting a fashion blog. This is something I would never do at home. I don’t wear makeup. I’m not quite interested in it and to be honest I don’t put very much thought into the clothes I wear on any given day. I have, however, always been quite drawn to fashion in film, especially growing up watching classic Hollywood movies. Fashion from the 1930s is my favorite.
Cary Grant has always been considered a fashion icon from this time and in an interview with GQ in the 1967/1968 edition he said, said concerning fashion, “I don’t consider myself especially well dressed” and “I’ve never, as far as I can compare the effort of others with my own, gone to any special trouble to acquire clothes that could be regarded as noticeably fashionable or up-to-date” (http://www.gq.com/story/cary-grant-on-style).
So I realized, if Cary Grant didn’t believe fashion to be something he actively pursued or even really cared about and could be considered one of the most iconic men ever in fashion then, I, a person who feels quite similarly, can definitely rise to the challenge of blogging about fashion. My blogs each week will concentrate on fashion in film. Movies have influenced my life so much and I am excited to unravel how fashion has played a role into creating that passion.
