THE GIRL THAT ROCKS IT ALL: ALEXA CHUNG

I would like to spend some time, and focus on one of the most inspirational women in fashion industry. Yes I’m talking about Alexa Chung here. She has been working in fashion since she was 15, and has always finding interworking’s of the industry super fascinating. Now she’s not only a model but a style icon, fashion journalist and safe to say, one of the most influential figures in this biasness. Alexa topped Vogue’s list of most stylish woman, frequently writes for British Vogue, and has also written her own book called- “It”. You can also easily find her in top fashion magazines such as- Elle, and Harpers Bazar, or in the front rows at fashion shows. As much as she loves fashion, she gets more inspired by street style (rather than catwalk or magazine kind a style). She seeks the ideas and inspirations but what matters the most for her is to have fun and play with new ideas, regardless of the opinion of the crowd.

I cannot stress how much I personally admire her style and attitude towards fashion- not forgetting about her wittiness and sense of humour!

LOUIS VUITTON EMPIRE

Louis Vuitton luggage advertisement.

Louis Vuitton was founded in 1854. Nowadays it is considered the most exclusive luxurious brand in the world. The Second World War, explorations in the Amazonas, trips all over the world… this are the experiences that LV´s bags have lived during 162 years. A part from an incredible artesanal work and a great quality on the manufacturing process, Louis Vuitton´s prêt-a-porter and bags designs are an icon in the fashion industry. This fashion house creates timeless designs which will never become old-fashioned.
Personally, I felt in love with this brand in 2011 went LV presented Fall Winter 2012/2013 collection in Paris. I can´t get out of my head that huge train getting inside the catwalk, the music, the models walking through the fake train station and bellboys carrying their bags, the public captivated by the beautiful jackets and bags that Tom Ford (the artistic director) designed for that collection... The purest elegance in the greatest fashion production ever seen.

IT-GIRL & INFLUENCER, WHAT MEAN INDEED THIS NEW CONCEPTS?

More and more people are nowadays being famous by recording themselves and uploaded to You tube, also by creating a blog and doing blogpost almost every day talking about any important issue. There are also people getting recognised by posting photographs about themselves showing what they are doing or people they are meeting or just showing their last outfit. But why they get recognised and so famous?

In the past people were considerate famous because of their work on TV, because they wrote and important book or because they found a cure to any illness. It is true that technology was not as developed as it is nowadays. But as we can see, things had changed.

Nowadays people are recognised because of their work. But it is incredible how people are so famous without moving so far from their house. They can be famous just by recording videos about any interesting issue from their sofa.

The world in the one we are living today has changed because it has burned a new concept; ^the influencer^. Teenagers nowadays don´t dream about being the best writer. They are dreaming about becoming the most influencer in their countries and if it is possible in the world. But how? It is simple, by showing everybody how they can contribute to the world, and make the world be ready to listen to you. The key is to be yourself, influence people but don´t be wrong influence by anyone.

There are a lot of famous it girls actually. In my country, here in Spain there are a lot of people that they have started been famous for relatively little. One of the most famous it girls and the one I love so much is Aida Domenech, known as ``Dulceida´´. She is so popular because she has the power of influence people and this power is becoming stronger almost every day. She is an instagramer, blogger and youtuber. In general, she talks about fashion and last trends but there is a big difference comparing to others it girls. The biggest difference is that she is so natural comparing to other it girls that are more artificial. That is her biggest quality.

The Get Down

As students in college, when we get home from a long day of classes, there’s one place we immediately go to: Netflix. This week I opened up my Netflix account and was suggested to watch the new Netflix Original Series, The Get Down. I had seen the advertisements for it ever since it came out last month and with a little time on my hands I decided to give it a try.

After about half way through the pilot, I realized how much I was thinking about the costumes in the show. I kept thinking about how amazing it would be if we still dressed like they did in the 1970.

I thought about it though, after a while of watching, that many of us young people, do dress like this today. It’s called thrifting. Fashions from previous decades are now becoming popular again. For example, in the past couple of years, high wasted pants with crop tops have come back in style, as seen on the actress on the left (Shirly Rodriguez). This style of pants can be purchased at stores everywhere, such as Zara, for an affordable price.

My favorite thrift store back home, in Austin, Texas, is called Blue Velvet (http://bluevelvetaustin.com/). This store even organizes its clothes based off of the decade they belong to. So a rack may only contain clothes from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, etc. Another thrift store I like back home is called Passport Vintage. This thrift store advertises its latest fashions on Instagram, often including the decade the clothing item is from in the captions of its posts.

The question then becomes why do we wish to dress like we belong in the past? Simple: movies and television.

Movies and television shows have always held an escapist element. We are escaping from the everyday humdrum of our own lives to experience action, excitement, romance, and everything else (such as fashion) that we will never experience in our own day. And isn’t this what thrifting and even fashion is today? Are we young people now using fashion to escape, sort of like our Netflix accounts?

HOW DO I SEE IT

I feel like there are so many ways people communicate their believes, views, personality etc.
As sometimes pictures speaks more than hundred words, fashion also does. And it is not only about what clothes we were- it’s also, how we carry ourselves. It’s the confidence, and creativity that’s comes with it. I find it to be the reflection of ourselves, ours moods each day, it is who we are as an individual.

Fashion is what we where, what makeup we put, what hair style we were, and so much more. People often seem confused by comprehending what it is all about.
For me what actually meters is how can I apply the knowledge of what seems to be currently „fashionable” and make it my own way. I wouldn’t like to blindly copy what the trendsetters claim to be the to be on top. When I look through the magazines I look for the inspirations, not for the copy paste outfits.
What do we think when we see all these people dressed in an exact same way? Does the fact that they wear what the rest does, because they were tolled to do so, make them fashionable?
Well, I don’t think so. All they communicate is that they wont to be unnoticeable. Hide behind their outfits and fit in. Since fashion for me seems to be creativity, confidence and, I would rather let myself choose from the endless amount of possibilities and enjoy the freedom that comes with it.
